Loaner Laptop Information & Distribution

What are loaner laptops, and who do we give them out to?

The IT Desk has a selection of laptops available to either be deployed to faculty or loaned out to students. All deployable laptops are provided for faculty for longer periods of time, while all loaner laptops are for students to be used for a shorter period of time. You should always check out these items to students or faculty using SnipeIT. Every time an item on SnipeIT is deployed to faculties or students, it must be checked out under their unity. Upon returning the equipment, the item is then checked-in and may be used again. You must also be sure to check the status of the asset to see if it is in the ‘Deployable’ or ‘Loaner’ category.

Tagging and Labeling Assets

Click here for instructions on labeling and tagging loaners. The steps for loaners are the same for assets.

Check-Out

  1. Select the asset on SnipeIT
  2. Click on “Actions” –> “Checkout Asset”
  3. Change the “Status” to “Checked out Loaner”
  4. Under “User”, enter the user’s Unity ID. If it is not present in the dropdown, click on the “New” button next to the field and create a new user with their first name, last name, unity ID as username, and ask them to set a password/set a default password and save.
  5. Add any notes if required, and select “Checkout”
  6. Make sure you enter the checkin date if it is a Loaner so we can ensure that the user has returned the device on or before the checkin date.

Check-In

  1. Select the asset on SnipeIT
  2. Click on “Actions” –> “Checkin Asset”
  3. Change the “Status” to “Available Loaner”
  4. Add any notes if required, and select “Checkin”
  5. Place the equipment in the “Ready to be deployed” closet in the student leads room, with a blue tape on it that mentions the next steps to be followed/status with respect to the device
