Encrypting a Mac using FileVault
Click on the link below to enable FileVault without using JAMF.
Why?
Full-Disk Encryption such as FileVault protects a user’s data from theft. Even if a hard drive is stolen and placed in another computer, the contents are unreadable without the user’s password or a recovery key.
Note: We are no longer manually enabling FileVault and backing up encryption keys. If we enable FileVault through JAMF, it automatically backs up the key.
Enable FileVault via JAMF Self-Service
- Launch the JAMF self-service application.
- Log in using your NetID / Password.
- Go to ‘DU – BIO – IT Tools’ and click on ‘Enable FileVault’
- The machine will automatically restart to enable FileVault.
Enable FileVault through JAMF using terminal
- Launch Terminal
- Run the command: sudo jamf policy -event biofilevault
- Exit Terminal and restart computer to enable FileVault.
