Troubleshooting Basics

User Unable to Access Wired Network

1. If the caller's device is unable to connect via wired network, let the caller know that we will check if the device is in InfoBlocks. Work with Alex to check if the device is in InfoBlocks
2. Check to see that the ethernet cable is properly connected to the port and to the computer. Issue could be due to damaged ethernet cable or incorrect insertion of cable.
3. Check to see if the port is active, by testing the network connection with your computer and with the cable tester.
4. If the port is active but you are receiving a 169 IP address, contact OIT.
