Cisco AnyConnect VPN Onboarding Instructions

What is a VPN?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. From hiding virtual location to encrypting sensitive data, VPN secures privacy for online content and data sharing. 

What is Cisco AnyConnect VPN and Why Do We Need It?

Cisco AnyConnect is a VPN offered and used by NC State students, faculty, and staff that are off campus. It allows users to access certain campus websites or sensitive information. For example, WebPrint requires students to be connected to the VPN in order to upload documents. 

Installing Cisco AnyConnect

  1. Navigate to the following website: https://oit.ncsu.edu/campus-it/campus-data-network/vpn/
  2. Under Installing and Using VPN, select the link that matches your operating system.
  3. Follow the Installation Instructions by first downloading the installer file.

Connect to Cisco AnyConnect (Link Here)

  1. Launch Cisco AnyConnect from your device.
  2. Enter the following into the text bar: vpn.ncsu.edu and click Connect
  1. Select the appropriate Group from the dropdown menu
  1. Enter your UnityID and Password
  • Note: Type push to receive Duo Authentication, sms to receive a SMS passcode
  • For users who ONLY uses a Security Key/U2F Token, get a single-use code from go.ncsu.edu/dc
  1. Select OK and you’ll be connected.

Disconnect from Cisco AnyConnect

  1. Navigate to the Cisco AnyConnect icon from your taskbar.
  2. Right Click -> Disconnect
